So I know it's a little early to be talking about the holidays, but let's face it - Thanksgiving really is right around the corner. These Gold Shoe Laces ($19,000) from Mr. Kennedy are covered in 14k gold. The silver ones are only $3,000... Yeah....

But I still love the idea. So I say, grab some metallic gold paint (preferably fabric paint, but it's not absolutely necessary) and go to town on a pair of white laces. Spray with a sealant since shoe laces really take a beating.

I'm loving this graphic Sunburst Cocktail Ring ($40) by House of Harlow. It's super-big so you'll really make a statement with this one! But I think if it's the only jewelry you wear, it's absolutely perfect. Incredibly chic, even for the conservative dressers among us (like me!). There are also two matching necklaces here and here.

Halloween and Beyond

So I've been thinking about how much I love holidays... Halloween is seriously one of my favorites. And now that it's looming 30 days away, I want to start accessorizing for the season. But I hate spending money on things I'll only wear once a year! So I'd like to share with you some bling that can be worn in the spooky spirit of the season, but also seamlessly work with a coordinating outfit at any other time of year. Awesome!

So the lovely ring up top is the Deco Ring in Pumpkin ($22) by Blonde Chick. It would look awesome with anything black, but would also work if you're punching up any hue with another orange accessory like a belt or necklace. And it comes in purple too, which is also Halloween-y and works after the holiday quite well.

The Kitty Cat Ring ($10) from iluxo looks awesome in black and is a playful take on the season. While the Steampunk Skeleton Key Necklace ($35) from Meltemsem is probably the easiest "throw it on and go" piece for any outfit any time of year, but will take on a creepy, mysterious vibe during Halloween.

Have you seen Bauble Bar yet? It's a fairly new online shop selling lots of really pretty bling in a variety of styles at mostly low prices. The materials aren't awful, though they're not the really nice stuff of course. In fact, part of the mission behind the store is to ignore the rule of the industry that a retailer should mark up their jewelry astronomically. They like to say Bauble Bar "lets women create their ultimate jewelry box guilt-free." And I couldn't agree more.

This is one of the beauties that caught my eye today: The Royal Quartz Necklace ($34) above. Isn't it interesting and lovely? Do you love wood as much as I do? I typically have an issue with mixed woods, though. I think it can easily look tacky. But here is how to do it well! Look at that beautiful mix of wood tones in the Marina Chevron Necklace ($88) by Amy Bengtson above. By using a dark brown wood with blackened streaks and a blueish undertone and mixing it with a red wood and a light white, the result is really interesting and captivating and not at all tacky. I also love that we're keeping with the chevron trend in a very timeless way!

I always hesitate to go all-out on a trend. I never know if it will still be popular in a year's time.... and I've definitely made the mistake enough times to hold back now. But, you can find classy pieces that reference a trend that will look good no matter what's "this season". This Fail Whale Necklace ($20) by I Adorn U was inspired by the Twitter error message. But it immediately reminded me of a dear friend of mine from college. This wonderful girl always has a smile and kind words to say. One of her favorite phrases is "that's a party whale".
