Origami for Your Ears

I've fallen for these gorgeous Black Origami Butterfly Earrings ($9) by Mille Gru Di Carta. I found them through a treasury my crow feather earring was featured in. I think they are so beautiful. Flipping through the images, these paper earrings look almost like leather because of the protective varnish they've been given. I love that you can request a different size or color for no extra charge and that they come in a pretty box for gift-giving.

Cat, Bird, Snake

 

The Rapture Ring ($6,254) at Catbird (found via Janice Bear's Pinterest) is also a St. Kilda piece. I'm loving the snakes biting onto a beautiful Indian diamond. The whole piece is just lovely. It would be a great engagement ring for those of you looking for something out of the ordinary. Start dropping hints and saving money!

Curvaceous Love

So it's been ring-a-palooza here lately, but honestly each piece is completely worth it! I don't know what's come over me.... well I guess I do. I just really really love rings. I'll stop tomorrow, promise.

This Rose Gold Love Knot Ring ($750) by Finn is equally beautiful as your favorite everyday ring and as your special-occasions-only splurge. It's a beautifully smooth and sensuous take on the metal knot trend. I think this might be my favorite so far, actually.

Texture Overload

I love Macha Jewelry for their amazing rings. This new 33 1/3 Knuckle Ring ($385) is no exception. Look at that texture! The rough cuts are phenomenal. With part of the top and one side being mostly smooth, there is a beautiful contrast I'm absolutely loving.

Bone Thin

The lengthened shape of the bone on this Thin Bone Bracelet ($288) by St. Kilda makes it special. It elevates the bone to delicate and precious. The piece is made from sterling silver and white enamel. And despite the dark, vaguely gothic look of the website, individual pieces don't feel so sadistic for the most part. They feel interesting and occasionally even sweet (like the "animal kingdom" and "prezzies" sections).

Ocean Dreams

I grew up on an island off the east coast, in South Carolina. The beach was a big part of my childhood. Frilly

I am crushing on the frilly, lacy details abstracted into necklaces and rings at Gemagenta. The Lingerie Sweetheart Neckline Pendant ($55) is carefully cut out by hand from a beautiful piece of sterling silver with a satin (light silver) or oxidized (greyish black, shown) finish.



The Lingerie Ring 006 ($52) is similarly made and absolutely gorgeous. These pieces are just so curvy and sexy. Yowza! I also want the Lingerie Ring 002 ($52, below), with it's surprisingly little peaks... they're so provocative.

I am participating in the Bloggers Day of Silence tomorrow, March 18th (organized by Ever Ours and Utterly Engaged) to promote awareness for the disaster relief needs in Japan. I want you to take the time you might have spent reading Bling of the Day and spend it thinking about the many blessings in your life. Take two minutes and make a list of the things that have made you smile today and the people you know will make you smile tonight. Feel blessed to have food and shelter.

And then, if you feel you have the means, please do donate to the disaster relief efforts in Japan. Or feel free to find a different charity supporting the cause that you would prefer to donate to. Or even find a different cause you feel more compelled to help. The point is to take a moment to appreciate what you have and to give what you can to those who have less.

Glee

I watched last night's episode of Glee this morning and I'm a tad ashamed to say I teared up a bit at poor Rachel's plight. She seemed so earnestly heartbroken. This inspired me to post about the lovely jewelry she wears on the show.

 

This Rachel Initial Pendant ($150 - $230) by Ryan Ryan comes in a variety of metals (10k or 14k white, yellow, or rose gold) and chain lengths. You can pick our your initial as well.



Rachel's Valentine's gift from Finn is this pretty gold star (an important emblem for the character) and a teensy diamond on the side. It's also from Ryan Ryan: the Rachel's Star & Diamond Necklace ($120 - $250).







And, though I think this one is a bit ridiculous, there is the Rachel's "Any Name" Necklace ($150 - $230), which reads "Finn" on the show.



They also have the Key to My Heart Chastity Charm Necklace from the the celibacy club on this season.

I think these are darling little simple pieces, but could easily be made for cheaper. I'd start with a trip to Etsy to see if anyone is already "knocking these off" (can you knock off an open star, a curly initial, and a pretty-fonted name necklace? hasn't that been done before?) for less.

I wish these Flourite Rings (app. $375 each) were sold online. They're from Nga Waiata, but only sold in stores in New Zealand, Australia, and a couple in the US. Here's their store list for those of you who might be lucky! (Don't worry, I checked all the links for you and none of them let you buy these rings.)

Thorn in My Side

I'm dying over these ridiculously adorable Thorn Earrings ($45) by Lena Studio! They're handmade from real thorns (from the Palo Borracho tree in the artist's Argentina backyard), fine silver, and sterling silver. I think they're beautiful and quirky. And I really love that the artist texturizes the metal, but is also willing to make it completely perfect and shiny for you! How accommodating of her...

Wear This With That: Mixed Metals

This Little Gaudy And Little Dainty Necklace ($52) by Make Pie Not War matches vintage chains with handmade chains with pyrite beads. It hangs so beautifully across the bustline... I think it would look awesome with this primary blue Beautifully Draped Evening Dress ($70) by Lucia Verona.

Glammy Chic

I am loving this Black Leather and Brass Cuff ($50) by Valerie Tyler for it's chic, glam-sophisticate vibe.  I can see this equally with a flowy boho dress and a sleek bodycon dress. Ooh, and it would add some edge to a frilly ball gown!

Spring is Springing!!

Don't you just feel like spring is springing up? Even amidst the snow I've got here on vacation in CO, I feel like sunshine and flowers are just around the corner! And I honestly can't wait. That's why I'm thinking about getting this fantastic Mini Vase Necklace ($58) by Rachel Pfeffer. It's sterling silver and handmade. You can even put a bit of water in it with some real flowers if you like! And you can use it year-round.

Wear This With That: Rough Diamonds

So I wanted to try a new thing here on Bling of the Day. Today is the first installment of "Wear This With That"! Occasionally I'll show you a wonderful piece of bling (as per usual) and something equally gorgeous to wear it with, outside of the jewelry category. Spiffy, huh?

I have fallen head over heels for these Rough Diamond Stud Earrings ($98) by Lex Luxe. The diamonds are in a beautiful, traditional prong setting, made of 14k gold. And you can get the rough diamonds in the beautiful silver color shown or in black diamond, should you request it. I love the mix of modern and traditional and would totally wear these everywhere.... while carrying this Grayscale Pleated Silk Clutch ($50) by Jes Switaj.

New Take On Birch

I love this version of the birch tree trend. The Birch Shadows Necklace ($28) by It's A Stitch is handmade from an vintage silver button set in a fantastic gunmetal setting. I like that I can participate in a trend in a unique way instead of just jumping in with the crowd full force.

Geometry

I'm not big on geometric. I usually like things more organic. But I really do enjoy this Sunday's Best Double Triangle Ring ($95) at TenOverSix. Maybe it's that lovely curve between the two peaks that got me... or perhaps that it's a ring. I'm clearly obsessed with rings.

Better Late Than Never
