Bondage

Lombardy Armor Ring Gothic Flourish Filigree Double Rings 2 ring set

Well.... today's bling sort of reminds me of a sweet, beautiful form of bondage at least! The Lombardy Armor Rings ($20 for a set of two) by Raven Eve Jewelry are beautiful, ornate filigree pieces in a silver plate. For comfort and adjustability, some velvet backs the base of each ring. These look great on your longer fingers and can really dress up an outfit (or give it a more... cough... sinister vibe).

Love,
Bling!
PS - the two posts tonight are because I was sick and missed Friday's post! Apologies!

Low Cost, High Style

I typically avoid trends as best I can because I end up spending a fortune on pieces I only wear for one or two seasons. Then they get tossed aside for the newest hits. Not anymore. I've now taken to scouring the 'net for the less expensive versions of the trend, like this Dahlia Necklace (just $19) by Morgan Prather. It follows the cut-out nature forms everyone's wearing these days - very Julia Failey.

What I love about this piece is that it isn't low-quality in it's creation: it's handmade using traditional metallurgy methods. But the artist chose to make the pendant from rhodium, cutting the cost but not the style. This is just one of almost 200 necklaces and earrings in the store, most in the same on-trend style. You're bound to find the perfect piece to keep you looking of-the-moment, affordably.

Blooming

I swooned upon seeing this quirky bling ring. The Blossom Ring ($185) by Contagious wraps around the underside of the finger and stays on because the blooms bend in just enough, but don't touch. It's made of an oxidized sterling silver, so it's safe on delicate skin. And the little beads of metal in the center of the flowers are 14k gold. That's the richest pollen I've ever seen...

Bling!
PS - click the link to see their shop. It's stunning.

Wednesday

Cupid's Arrows

I gave you a slight respite from the Valentine's goodies, but today's bling is all about Cupid! The Struck Necklace ($16) by Three Birds Designs is a fun lariat necklace with an arrow at each end. It comes gift wrapped and you can request custom sizing (max 22.5 inches total) for free! Shipping is under $4 all over the world. Now aren't you getting excited about the holiday?

Winter Brunch

This would be the perfect accessory for a dreary winter brunch. The Wristlet No. 47 ($20) by Awkward is a handmade, tea-dyed cuff that fastens with a beautiful button. I love the gorgeous brown tone and the intricate knots of the lace.

Monday

All Dolled Up

Bows are very hit or miss. The wrong size can scream, "TACKY!" The wrong shape can make you look like you're five years old - or that child's doll. The wrong color.... well now you're entering Granny-land. But the right bow can make your outfit look clever, chic, and of-the-moment.

I found these Bronze Leather Reminder Bow Earrings ($45) from By Boe on Endless. They come in a beautiful copper bronze and also a lovely pewter grey. I can't decide which I like better. They are handmade using high-quality materials and since they're on Endless, we get to enjoy free shipping and free returns!

Love,
Bling!
PS - also check out this nifty braided leather ring.

Friday

This Way

Continuing in my avoidance of blatant Valentine's Day bling until February 1st, I would like to show you this great handknit Arrowhead Knitted Rope Bracelet ($9) by Nerdy Together. Um, love. Oh whoops! Not supposed to use the L-Word just yet. This piece speaks to me because I made a knit bracelet a couple years ago. It was the first piece I put in my Etsy shop, actually. And honestly, I didn't think it up beforehand. I was just practicing my purl stitch and came up with this beautiful blue bracelet I clasped together with an old button. Finding a kindred spirit making a similar (but much more thought out - look at that fabulous knotting!) piece is inspiring.

And it's a complete steal! Heads up to the artist - you might want to raise your price, this is worth a lot more... And heads up to my dear readers, you best grab yours before they do up their prices!

I Hear the V Calling Me

Valentine's Day, I mean.

The fashion blogosphere is alive with the season of love! I keep running across amazing romantic pieces. But I don't want to shove it all down your throats, my dear readers, for an entire month! That would be rather troublesome. So instead I am going to get my excitement out gently and subtly. I'm starting with arrows.... like cupid's arrows. But where you hardly notice the V-Day connection. Promise!

Just look at the Blue Arrow Cocktail Ring ($14) by With Care, above. That's not Valentine's-ish at all! But I still feel like I'm getting some of my anticipation out... a delightful rush. This large ring is made from silk and copper and set in silver on an adjustable base. I love the bling and I love the price! It's a win-win.

Parlez-Vous Francais?

Non? I suppose I'll have to use English then. De rien. I speak much better English anyway!

But I do love this exquisite cuff. The colors are so wearable, which you don't find often in bling. The Vintage Book Cover Cuff ($44) by Simple Joys Paperie comes in a variety of colors and text because each is handmade from vintage books. This particular bracelet is made from a book titled "A First Course in French" and dating to the early 1900s. The sophisticated palette and obvious stitching make it very chic. It's one-of-a-kind and very affordable. And don't worry! The rest of the book was used to make other lovely pieces of home decor and art.

Papercut Craft Obsession

So maybe I just have an obsessive personality as-of-late. But honestly, the beautiful papercuts I'm seeing in the art world lately can be difficult to ignore. Part of me doesn't like the fame of such books as This is For You, but another part of me just adores the intricate details... so I'm settling my torn soul by obsessing over the fashion world's take on the trend.

And now I'm realizing this isn't an obsession with papercuts.... this is an obsession with all papercraft. Hello, post on origami yesterday.

And point... I have one! Take a look at this beautiful Lasercut Lace Necklace ($160) by Anuk Harvey. Um, gorgey! So the shop is really new, but you do have three lovely lasercut necklace options. This is my favorite because it's simple enough to not compete with the shock value of the basic concept of the piece.

Love,
Bling!
PS - Wouldn't this be just beautiful in an entry-way?

Monday

Japan-love

So lately, I've been playing video games with the Boy. Well, he has the controller... but anyway. We've been playing Persona 3 and 4 (aka Shin Megami Tensei), a Japanese video game series that depends on "social links" to advance gameplay appropriately. Yeah yeah, I know... I'm not a gamer either. But honestly, they're really fun! You get to know the characters, who are real and honest and flawed... and highschoolers. And you choose how your character (the main character around which the game is centered) responds to everyone. If you make a wrong decision about what to say to a friend, the game can literally end right there.

So my point is, I'm getting a little obsessed with Japanese culture. I really hated it for a long time, because all I knew was the Tokyo fashion scene (which is ridiculous) and the weird, pointless inventions of Japan. But I'm now finding the awesome side of the Japanese. And I'm proving it by showing you this stellar Origami Kuru Shou Necklace ($41) by Homako. Um, can you say "love"? I have a special place in my heart for this fabric bling that's been carefully folded and sewn into beautiful origami... Enjoy the under-$5-shipping no matter where you are in the world and check out the other colors and styles in this gorgeous necklace store!

Grab Your Buds

I mean buddies! The Beer Buddies Brooch ($320) by Touch The Dutch is a perfect reminder of time around the campfire with a couple friends and a big cooler of cold ones. So, confession, I might not actually like beer. But I can appreciate the beautiful lines, lovely detail, and satiny finish of this brooch. And the enjoyment of kicking back with friends. Plus, the piece makes a great statement as art. It's large (4" x 2") enough and you can pin it to just about anything soft. I would pin it to a pretty fabric that fits my color scheme and then frame the fabric in an ornate white frame. Perfect.

Love,
Bling!
PS - the shop is full of great wildlife and nature pieces in a variety of styles so be sure to take a look at the other (oft less expensive) options.

Wednesday

V-Day is a Month Away

Get your Girlfriend or Boyfriend in a Bottle ($8.50) at Gnome Sweeeet Gnome. I think it's perfect for that lonely friend you've got who keeps complaining they don't have a S.O. Or get one for yourself! Hang it on a pretty ribbon (for a gal) or twine (for a guy) and you're ready to go. It even comes with great gift-packaging! For an added charge, you can request a particular hair color, pose, or clothing selection.

Shake Your Tail Feather

So yeah, peacocks are horribly trendy right now. But honestly, those feathers are gorgeous. And how can you resist such a fantastic statement piece for your next formal affair.... that's under $15!! I swear. The Peacock Bib Necklace ($10.80) at Forever 21 is the tops! This one's for your next super-chic black-tie soiree. It will look good with almost any solid-color gown and with many prints. Of the five great formal dresses I currently own, this will work perfectly with four of them. I bet you'll find a similar result.

All Around The World

"statues crumble for me...." Not a 90s fan? Well, darn...

I just ran across this fantastic World Links Necklace ($60) at Design Glut. I might die. Well, the price is enough to make me faint at least.... that's a hefty charge for a mass-produced trinket made from plated brass. *cough cough*

To get off my high horse, I will say that because of its manufacturing, the detailing in the continent edges is spectacular. Just look at the right side of Africa... very precise. Love love. Oh! And it comes in gold tone for the same price, if you prefer.

Love,
Bling!
PS - If you're feeling gluttonous, the matching brooch ($36) is here.

Friday

I Want Chocolate.

Don't we all? (Well ok, honestly I've known people who don't like chocolate. But I'm going to ignore them for tonight's post.) In fact, I might go get some as a reward when I finish writing this! Mmm... *dreaming*

!!!

I'm awake! Huh? Sorry. Yeah, I'm back... just thinking about pie for a moment there. Yes, chocolate pie. Don't let me get sidetracked again. See that necklace in the picture above? Yeah, that's what we're here for. The Chocolate Chemical Structure Necklace ($78) by Polly Linn Silver Jewelry Designs is a beautiful sterling silver piece that reflects my constant desire for "the good stuff". I mean "chocolate". Get your head out of the gutter. I love the accurate chemical structure that is displayed in small lines and circles of silver. And I love the tag at the end of the necklace reminding you what it is! I forget things a lot.

Love,
Bling!
PS - The artist makes a number of other chemical structures in necklace and brooch forms - including red and white wines, serotonin, dopamine, and caffeine.

Bling of the Day - Serenity

Do you ever think you need a day off? Ever want to cleanse your life to only pieces that ease your soul?Ever wanted to purge your closet of all those bright colors and bold patterns in order to follow the neutral trend? Here's the first step.

I don't often feature pieces I've found on other blogs or email lists, but I couldn't resist when it came to The Serenity Ring ($50) by Happy Golicky, which melts away my stress just by looking at it. It makes me want to change this background to white and wear only creams and greys for the next month... oh! and take a long, hot bubble bath. And this is the start of purging my life of the noise. Every day next week I plan to spend 10 minutes picking up and organizing my apartment. Then I'll see where I am and make another goal for the next week.

What are you doing to purge the clutter or stress from your life?

Love,
Bling!
PS - I forgot to mention, this piece is made from reclaimed (read: eco-friendly) fine silver (read: high quality) and comes in whatever size you want (half sizes included).

Wednesday

Alternative Materials

So Friday I posted about a pendant made of paper, yesterday it was a wool necklace, today it's a ring made from volcanic rock. I wasn't planning a series, but... If I happen to choose similar pieces by chance, I call it fate and believe that must be a theme I should grab hold of and play around with.

Perhaps my subconscious wants me to see uses of alternative materials to spark imagination, perhaps it wants me to try a new material myself, maybe I am destined to bring a particular piece of bling to a reader! The possibilities are endless and exciting.

This particularly odd material is black volcanic lava rocks from the heart of Santorini, Greece. The Santorini Lava Rock Rotating Ring ($52) by Sun San features a sphere of volcanic rock set on a sterling silver axis, allowing it to spin. The ring base is round (which typically makes it super-comfy!) and will be made to your measurements when you order. Just tell the artist your ring size at checkout - it's as easy as that.

What Season Is It?!

It feels like Winter already! But I'm still caught up in the beauty of Autumn... This Felt Poppy Necklace ($33) by Jurooma lets me embrace both seasons at once! The fabric necklace is made from high-quality wool which has been felted into lovely petals and leaves. The "chain" length is about 24 inches, which puts this piece in the middle of your chest. Enjoy free shipping on this piece and a host of other gorgey fiber pieces in the shop.

Welcome 2011!!

With another year comes new goals and dreams... and progress. But it is important to take a look back at where we came from and what we've accomplished in our past. While most of us weren't alive in the 30s, this Vintage Bus Fare Pendant ($98) by Jean Jean Vintage reminds me of tough times and simple solutions.  Don't forget that the simplest ideas are often the best and the daily problems are often the ones most worth fixing. I'd wear this beautiful necklace open, though the closed front has a pretty bluish grey hue and looks rather elegant - making me wonder what's inside. But open, it's a stunning antique that everyone will ask about. The chain is a super-long 40", but doubling it around your neck looks unique and stylish.
