Saturday

It's Halloween!!

The witching hour is upon us, when children haunt the streets garbed in outlandish ideals and spooky caricatures of the creatures that frighten our nights. The witching hour is upon us, when candy rules the darkness and those who oppose are taunted and punished with tricky games throughout the night. Do not ignore the rules of the witching hour....

But enjoy the festive occasion with some Halloween bling. Spoooooky... Above are the Flower Eyed Sugar Skull Studs ($48) by An Original Jewelry to celebrate Dia de los Muertos. The Sterling Silver Skull ($62) by Markhed (below) is made entirely with sterling silver and a jeweler's hand saw! Gorgeous...

The Preserved Spider Web Necklace ($210) by Dollybird is too cool. You can definitely rock this on Halloween night or any day of the year (except those cheery holidays like Christmas, Easter, and Valentine's Day - maybe a tad inappropriate). I also want to take a moment to mention a piece you should probably only wear on (or near) Halloween, or perhaps for a scary costume event or a horror movie marathon. Below, the Slit Throat Choker ($10) by Burlesquers is awesome! Very creepy... It would look perfect as a duet costume with someone else holding an axe, and that would be supereasy to put together last-minute.

So hopefully you're prepared with the bestestest non-cliche costume you could dream up and completely prepared for a night of fun, whether you're trick-or-treating, enjoying a busy doorbell-filled night with a large bowl of candy, or partying it up (hopefully not Snooki-style!). Enjoy the frightacular events of my favorite holiday! Let me know in the comments what you plan on doing, what costume you're wearing, and how it all ends up going in the comments!

Love,
Bling!
PS - I finally quit my 9-5 job and yesterday was my last day. I'm telecommuting for some boring work now, so I've still got a "day job" but I'll have much more time/energy and flexibility. However, preparation for the switch is what kept me away this past week and why I didn't put together a costume. I'll be relaxing in my apartment with the Boyfriend and a bowl of candy I'm not allowed to touch (trying to lose those last few pounds!) answering the door for about 3 children all night. Maybe we'll watch a scary movie!

Tuesday

Annoucement

I promise I haven't forgotten about you lovely readers. Just busy getting things ready for my impending Big Life Change!

What's this change, you might ask.... Well, I'm so excited to tell you about it! I have recently gotten in cahoots with my family and am quitting my current day job for a more flexible position with the family business. I will be telecommuting, so I get to stay here and continue with everything (but business) as usual. The position entails a lot of bookkeeping, organizing, filing, and annoying number-type things that I hate... but I'll have plenty of time to focus on Bling of the Day, starting my business, and annoying stuff that never gets done like household chores.

Though I recently acquired a friend's old Roomba and that thing is bananas-awesome-ness!

Love,
Bling!

PS - I got my Prismera necklace in the other day and it's absolutely perfect!
PPS - well I don't want to leave you hanging without some bling! That would be cruel. I'm lusting after these Diamond Ball Earrings which are putting me in the spirit of the season much too far in advance. No thank you. I will wait for Black Friday, please.

Thursday

Candy Corn Ring

Her hand dove into the bowl and came out with eighteen pieces of her favorite treat, a wash of yellow and orange. She popped a cone past her lips and smiled as she chewed, revealing crumbles stuck to her teeth. A finger spun a lock of hair round and round as the handful dwindled to one perfect bite.

Wednesday

Off Hallowed Ground

A sharp claw grips to my thin nightgown as the cool air flows past me. I feel weightless and crave the earth beneath my feet. As my hair tousles, I watch my grandmother's bracelet, glinting in the moonlight, fall slowly to the ground.

Tuesday

To The Moon - And Beyond!

"Then he lay down close by and whispered with a smile, 'I love you right up to the moon - and back.'"

Monday

Running Headfirst into Halloween

Walking a dark street in the moonlight, I hear an owl in the distance. The ruffle of leaves to my right disguises two bright eyes. I turn around and start running... headfirst into Halloween.

Friday

A Sip of Brandy

A sip of the sour liquid warms my body from its core, bringing me home and comforting me.

Thursday

The Perfect Stud

It's hard to find that perfect stud, that man whose glance your way turns your soul to yearning and tugs your stomach to the ground. When all is said and done, there are millions of studs out there but only one or two that make a good fit for you. I think I found my stud, did you? Are you still looking or ever come close? Tell me in the comments.

There really are millions of choices when it comes to lovely little stud earrings. Most are awfully boring and frequently they look cheap. So I went hunting for a good pair of studs. I found these fantastic little blue beauties - Midnight Quartz Earrings ($345) by Stephen Dweck, available at Bergdorf Goodman. Bronze surrounds the midnight quartz stones and appears like a bird's nest with its gorgeous texture. They just might be your perfect stud!

Love,
Bling!
PS - If you've found your stud or your studs, I'd love to hear about him/them! Tell me your love-at-first-sight (or not) story and maybe I'll share mine...

Wednesday

Quiet Opulence

There is something about the shape of a teardrop. It's so purely rounded and holds a certain tension. The result is unbelievably beautiful. It's like a whisper of solemnity that carries a world of memories.

The Peruvian Opal Multi-Drop Necklace ($85) by Alexandra Lea is no exception. This elegant piece features triangular chain sections from which green-tinged peruvian opal stones dangle. There is a simultaneous sense of calm and opulence when I look at the necklace. I would love to style it with a floaty white dress and some brown leather sandals.

Love,
Bling!
PS - Is there a shape you love? Let me know in the comments and I might feature some bling based on your favorite shape!

[Update] Alexandra Lea has her own blog as well that shows off her 2D artistic endeavors. They're pretty cool!

Tuesday

Hunting Caribou

I've never understood how anyone can see that flash of beautifully soft brown fur and still shoot. Hunting makes the animal's strong body crumple to the ground, those graceful lines soaked in blood. How do you hurt something with equal parts grace and pride, strength and humility?

Since I don't hunt for real, I can at least get my wild animal fix with some rad bling like this Caribou Bracelet ($28) by Labyrinth Vintage. This handmade piece is slightly adjustable to fit a variety of wrist sizes. It's a gorgeous gold-toned brass that twinkles with the detail of the antlers and fur.

Ignore the horrid spelling and grammar in the product description. I promise the piece is excellent either way!

Love,
Bling!
PS - Like the new voice? How about the position and size of the images? Hate it? Sound off in the comments!

Monday

The Vines of Memory

When I was a child, I would stare at the vines winding over the wall while my brother and I ate vanilla bean ice cream from tacky, cone-shaped bowls at the counter. We would swivel our stools and ask for more - and always get more. And those green leaves would paint the backdrop above us. That was my grandmother's house after we got home from school. The wallpaper looked exactly like these precious little earrings, except bigger and less tasteful.

I want these Heart Shaped Leaf Patina Earrings ($22), by JooJoo Land, if only to remind me how much I love my grandmother even as she grows older and acts less and less as I remember. She is still that woman who gave us ice cream and poured chocolate sauce on top or brought us seconds. She is that woman who let us stay up late or "forget" to take a bath. She is that woman who encouraged us to go skinny dipping and ignore all the rules because they were made to be broken.

The beautiful shop that is JooJoo Land should be revered for its balance of class and playfulness. Do stop by for a look at the delicate, sweet bling, as well as the cute, round clay creatures. And don't miss the wedding cake toppers.

Love,
Bling!
PS - What is your most treasured memory of your grandmother?

Saturday

Forgetful Fridays

We tend to be forgetful lately... especially on Fridays. With the excitement of the weekend we're quick to sit on the couch watching TV or perhaps to pick up a book for once and hunker down for a few hours of relaxing reading (ok, usually it's TV). We spend lots of time cuddling with that sweet man of ours... so Bling-ifying your lives occasionally gets forgotten. Allow us to make up for our IOU.

This Pheasant Feather Necklace ($18), by LouLouDo, is just about the most perfect thing... except that it's a little large. But if you like bigger necklaces, pieces with a little oomph and a punch, this is the one. You'll want to wear this all the time. The feathers are genuine, from a pheasant, and stitched to a lovely strip of pale leather. The chain is incredibly long (28 inches) so you have plenty of room to get the length cropped off if you want it shorter, or you can just keep it at this wonderful length. It reaches to the center of the stomach, which can look lovely to spice up a plain top and become the focal point of an outfit.

Love,
Bling!

PS - the shop (Super Duper Things) is just incredible! So beautiful... Every piece is covetable. Every piece is perfect. And every piece is handmade and unique. AND they're having a "Silly Sale" with lots of pieces at just $5 a pop! Hurry hurry go go go!!

Thursday

Paper Made Chic Again

Since when did paper go out of style? With computers taking over our lives (hey, I'm not complaining!), no one seems to use paper anymore - no paper planners, no letters, no hand-written essays, rarely do you even see presentations where someone has glued together the different pieces on their presentation board. Frucci Design is bringing paper back into our lives with their lovely collection of innovative paper-and-metal jewelry. The Red Shelly Bangle ($295) is our favorite, with its Vogue Magazine pages and gorgeous swirly shape. Cool tidbit? All the item descriptions are written in English *and* Italian. Che idea carina! Meraviglioso! Scusate, abbiamo studiato in Italia per un semestre... We get a little excited sometimes...

Back to the point! Point? Yes, point. We have one...
The Frucci shop is a tad small (we're hoping that will change soon!) but we like everything they currently offer, including a uniquely-shaped ring and some very long, dangly earrings. Be sure to check out their profile to better understand their cool, science-y perspective.
Love,
Bling!

Wednesday

Learn Your Geometry

Triangulate those trigonometric equations, dollface. La Amazonia ($85) by Spin Thread is the perfect neck adornment to brighten the upcoming wintry days. We're going to wear it with the pretty white dress with the boatneck we just picked up at a local boutique. What are you going to wear it with?
Love,
Bling!

Tuesday

Cork It!

We mean that in the sweetest way possible... In fact, we'll show you some bling to prove it. These Gold Cork Earrings ($18) by Ewoll are completely snazzy! We know they'll spice up our next clubbing outfit (well, we're not much for clubbing, but still! They're gorgeous!) and bring lots of attention to our lobes. Take a gander at the link to see how they dangle and sparkle.
Love,
Bling!

Monday

Updating Men's Pieces for a Woman!

This vintage piece is supposedly for men, but we think it's perfect for a woman when strung on a super-long chain. With the pendant falling right around the cleavage, it's like an arrow reminding everyone how great your body is (and trust us, that part of your body is always great to a man). We like arrows and we like looking good. The Italian Horn Pendant ($15) by Vintage by Emma comes strung on an entirely-inappropriate-for-our-purposes 18" rope chain. So buy the piece, take the pendant off the chain, and put it on a more delicate, longer chain. We suggest a 21" snake chain perhaps. Use your wonderful eye for style to decide what you like best, and try to show off those basoombas!
Love,
Bling!
PS - we get a kick out of this cartoon about Google, mostly because we adore the goog so much!
